Not all plastic can be recycled forever because it gets worse every time it&#8217;s recycled.<\/p>\n<p>Many think plastic can be recycled over and over without end. But, usually, it can be recycled only once or twice<sup class=\"citation\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.org\/7-things-you-didnt-know-about-plastic-and-recycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2<\/a><\/sup>. It&#8217;s important to know how recycling really works. Though it&#8217;s common in packaging, only 1-3% is recycled in the U.S<sup class=\"citation\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plasticsforchange.org\/blog\/which-plastic-can-be-recycled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">6<\/a><\/sup>. The main issues are cost and the extra steps needed to recycle it. They break down each time they&#8217;re recycled. This <em>plastic degradation<\/em> makes them weaker and less flexible. For example, once the plastic breaks down, it can&#8217;t be used for strong, durable products anymore<sup class=\"citation\"><a href=\"https:\/\/earth911.com\/business-policy\/how-many-times-recycled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">9<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\nUnlike aluminum and glass, which keep their quality forever, plastic loses its usefulness fast.
